About Us

A brief history of McRae Engineering Equipment Ltd.

Since 1930, McRae Engineering Equipment Ltd. has been supplying Canadian industries with top-of-the-line valve assemblies, Basco, Tranter heat exchangers and other heat exchangers, pneumatic actuators, blowers, filters, and many other process equipment, measurement, and control solutions.

Percy McRae started his equipment sales company in an office in downtown Toronto to market the steam turbine products of Moore Steam Turbines in Eastern Canada. During the 1930s and 1940s he sold many turbines to the existing and new developing industries in that region, including paper mills, refineries and steel plants. The Moore Turbine company became the Worthington Turbine company.

In the early 1950s Bill Macneill joined McRae Engineering Equipment Limited to assist Percy in sales. During this period, a number of new equipment lines were added to the product range, including Peerless gas filters and separators, Basco heat exchangers, Universal Silencers, Schutte and Koerting ejectors and Clark Reliance boiler trim. This allowed McRae to sell a variety of process equipment to a bigger industrial market. New customers were in the boiler manufacturing and natural gas transmission market.

In the 1970s, further expansion came to McRae as industrial activity in Ontario grew. Ross Kosowicz, David Duthie and Stan Morrow joined McRae to develop more sales. New products were also added, with Tranter heat exchangers and new valve assemblies. A machine shop was added to assemble and automate industrial valves for the industry.

In 1989, the ownership of McRae passed to Ross Kosowicz, David Duthie and Stan Morrow. A new location in western Toronto was purchased to expand and offer better service. At this time, the Worthington Turbine Group became Dresser-Rand Turbines, with more products to offer the industry and power groups. Further quality industrial suppliers have been added to the McRae product range such as Gardner Denver Blowers and Rentech Boilers.
